WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY

It takes a village, to raise a child

On August 19, we observe World Humanitarian Day (WHD), a dedicated occasion to honor the individuals who dedicate themselves to assisting those in times of crisis. Established by the United Nations General Assembly, this day serves as a tribute to aid workers who bravely put their lives on the line in the pursuit of humanitarian service. It also serves as a call to action, rallying support for those who are impacted by various crises across the globe. The inaugural commemoration of World Humanitarian Day took place on August 19, 2009.

Whenever and wherever individuals are in dire circumstances, there are those who step up to assist. Operating away from the limelight and away from prominent news coverage, these people unite to alleviate suffering and instill a sense of hope.

Importance of WHD

This day serves as a reminder that there are individuals prepared to respond to humanitarian crises.
Each year, the central theme is to unite humanitarians from around the world in advocating for the dignity, well-being, and survival of others. It is also focused on the safety of all the aid workers: showing the positive influence, effectiveness, and significance of the work done by humanitarians.
