INTERNATIONAL DAY OF EDUCATION

International Day of Education (IDE) was proclaimed on 24 January by United Nations General Assembly. This year, 2024, will be the sixth IDE under the theme ‘learning for lasting peace’. This theme is a reminder of how education can be used as a tool to promote peace globally. By educating the child and youth, communities and nations will be able to achieve gender equality peace and breaking the poverty cycle.
Sadly many children are robbed of this fundamental human right. Millions of children are disadvantaged not to attend school and others lack learning materials. This could be due to conflicts and other natural disasters. The government has put in place strategies to ensure all children get to attend school and get quality education. Empower the World Foundation (EWF), works to empower vulnerable families by offering scholarships. Aside from this EWF holds annual mentorship programs to empower and encourage students to reach their full potential.
LEARNING FOR LASTING PEACE

Significance of Education:

Let us embrace International Day of Education because every child requires a chance to attend school and get quality education. Additionally, investing in education is a path to global stability, peace promotion, development and well-being. It is important to recognize that education being Sustainable Development Goal 4(SDG4) highly contributes to the achievements of other SDGs. Through education individuals are able to develop skills needed for decent work, improvement in the health sector, promotes gender equality, reduces inequality, eradicates poverty, promote respect of human rights and most importantly it promotes world peace.
