The mother does not value education from the assessment I have done. John Muntaye Paro
John is the second born in a family of 8. He scored 298 marks out of the possible 500. He comes from the pastoralist community. His father died in tribal clashes and they did not have a chance to bury him. They had to relocate to safety in a different county where they live now with the mother. The mother is hard-working but raising money to take care of 8 kids is a big challenge. She doesn’t have a job but depend on any menial job that comes her way.
Rachael Bosibori Nyanchera
Rachael is the second born in a family of 4 girls. I have mentioned 4 girls intentionally because; her mother was ‘divorced’ on the grounds that she couldn’t give birth to a baby boy. She now lives with her daughters in a rented room. Rachael scored 332 marks out of the possible 500. The mother is not educated but values education. She wants the best for her daughters but does not have the means.
Simon Wainaina Gachengo
Simon is the 4th born in a family of 8. His other older siblings did not have a chance to attend high school because of financial issues. His father died years ago and left the 8 kids under the care of the mother. Simon scored 331 marks out of the possible 500. His brother too sat for KCPE this year. This makes it difficult for the mother to educate both of them in high school.
Everlyne Muthoni Ngacha

Celestine is the firstborn in a family of 7. She scored 356 marks out of the possible 500. She comes from the pastoralist community where tribal clashes are very common and premature marriage is also rampant. The father has other wives and he actually doesn’t value education. He would rather have Celestine circumcised and married off.
Ashmin Wanjiku Wambui
Ashmin is the 2nd born in her family of 3. She scored 334 marks out of the possible 500. She comes from a single parent family. Due to covid 19 pandemic, her mother lost her job. She was a shop attendant at a wines and spirit shop. Since then, her mother has turned to be irresponsible and drunk. After Ashmin completed KCPE, the mother wanted her to get a husband or get introduced to ‘streetwalking’. When I learned about this, I intervened and we are working on getting help from LifeBloom.
Grace Wanjira Gakunga
Grace is the 2nd born in a family of 2. She scored 381 marks out of the possible 500. Her father who was the breadwinner was involved in a road accident and badly injured. For this reason, her sister, who is in form two had to drop school because the family couldn’t afford the hospital bills and her school fees. They now live in a small rented room (dirt floored).
