Hello,
My name is Mwaura Teresia Wanjiru. I am a beneficiary of Empower the World Foundation (ETW). I sent a sponsorship application back in 2007 after completing my primary school education at St. Francis Junior primary School. I scored 389 marks. My dad passed on in July 2005 and my mother, a housewife, could not make the fees for me and my two brothers. Though I passed my final examinations in primary School, I was faced with the challenge of joining the high school I had received invitations to.
ETW was a silver lining for me when I thought that all hope was lost. When I finally reported to St Francis Secondary School for Girls (SFG) in form one, I knew that I had to work hard and smart so that I could make everyone proud, my family, ETW and myself. I strove to always do well in class and in my final exams. SFG was a loving community and conducive for learning. The teachers were friendly and concerned. They were also very supportive.
I scored a mean grade of B+ in my Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and went on to study for a degree in Tourism Management at Moi University, Eldoret. I completed my studies earlier this year in April 2015. I am awaiting award and graduation in December 2015. It was never smooth sailing but as long as I trusted in God and had the assurance that ETW was going to pay for my school fees for the whole course, I knew I was going to make it.
I am currently volunteering at the ETW office in Naivasha as I wait for replies from my sent job applications and as I complete my school project.
I would like to sincerely thank the entire ETW organization and all the kind and selfless people behind it, not only for sponsoring me, but also for having me in the office to help about as a way of giving back. I also thank them for giving me hope and empowering me through education and contributing to who I am today.
